Bright red lipstick is in apparently-- Does it work for any skin type or just light skinned?

Red lipstick can work for anyone. It just depends on what kind of red.

I was reading a beauty book by Bobbi Brown (famous makeup artist) that red with a bit of brown look best. Bobbi Brown also has her own make up line-found at Macy's, Bloomingdales, etc and most of her lipstick is brown based so you can't go wrong in selection.

If you are bit red shy then try a sheer red gloss or wear the red lipstick of your choice and put some gold gloss on it. Gold gloss is my trick to town down a too bright color and it gives a nice sparkle. Gold gloss can be found at Sephora.

If you are going for a more matte red lips look then definitely go easy on your eye make up and keep it light. Otherwise the red will compete with the eyes and you want those lips to be center stage. Also, you can use a lip brush to put on the red lipstick for more control and it will look less ';clownish'; on the mouth. Make sure to wear a liner too because the red will bleed out of your lip line.Bright red lipstick is in apparently-- Does it work for any skin type or just light skinned?
The shade of lipstick that you wear will depend on your skin tone.

So while all skin tones can wear red lipstick, the shade of red will vary from skin tone to skin tone.

My advice: Go to a makeup counter (it can be a standalone for a brand, such as what is found in department stores, or it can be a store like Sephora or MAC) and ask a sales associate to help you find a good shade of red to work with your lips. If you find that the type of lipstick colour that you'd prefer doesn't work with your skin tone, then ask to get a shade that suits your skin tone (and be sure you like it as well) and then ask if there are any nice, sheer lip glosses in a similar colour as the bright red that you are wanting, but that still have the same undertones as the lip stick (that way, you know it will work with your skin tone). That way, you can add the lip gloss to your lip stick to give it a nice shine, as well as add more red to the lip colour, or you can wear it alone to have a subtle hint of bright red (with many glosses, it's easier to wear many shades because of how sheer the lip gloss can be applied)Bright red lipstick is in apparently-- Does it work for any skin type or just light skinned?
Red lipstick will work for just about anyone. What you are asking, ';What shade is appropriate for me?';

True the light reds are best left for the light skinned girls. An olive skin, or heavily tanned girl wearing a light red would look awkward.

If you are not light skinned, I suggest you go for the darker reds. I got 2 weeks ago, ';drop dead red'; liplust from Coonobabe. It's a deep, dark, intense 40's style red that never goes out of style. Recommend it. Also try their ';bloodrose'; lip bullet. Even a light skinned girl can wear dark reds, they never go out of style. Take the guesswork out of lipstick.

Google Coonobabe
You guys are all crazy. Bright red lipstick looks like **** on 95% of the people I see (even celebrities). The 5% that looks good with it are usually very light-skinned, because it has such a strong contrast.

But if I wanted to be safe (say on a first date), I'd steer clear of bright red lipstick.
Honestly, red lipstick can work for anyone

it depends on how your make-up is.

red lip stick looks good when you have on winged out eye-liner

dark or light skinned, doesn't really matter

there's different shades for red lipstick.

just go with whatever you think looks best!

=)
I think it looks really good with any skin tone. But with pale skin it look vampirish and emo though.
THE LIGHTER THE SKIN TONE THE LIGHTER THE COLOR THE DARKER THE SKIN TONE THE DARKER THE COLOR
look better on pale skin but darker people look hot in it too it's just it really stands outn and pops on paler peaople.
Just light skinned in my opinion. Sucks, doesn't it. Well for me it does.
It looks hottest on very white girls with clear complexions.
It's for everyone; I'm thinking of wearing it daily. And I'm dark...like DARK DARK. lol :)
